As you’re perusing your seed catalogs this spring, you’re sure to come across some varieties marked as “AAS Winners” or “All-America Selections,”  bearing a  red-white-and-blue shield-shaped emblem next to the name. This isn’t a marketing ploy or an advertising gimmick.

Short lilies obscured by tall lilies

I need to transplant some lilies in our backyard, because the short ones are always obscured by the tall ones. (In the photo to the right, you can just barely make out the pink lilies near the center. ) I wanted to make sure I did it right, so I looked around the web for advice. Surprisingly, unlike other perennials, lilies should not be transplanted in the fall or early spring.
